Sewing Info & Tips

I have two versions of this bunny puppet.  The first version should either be made by an adult or a child with adult supervision.  The second is more suitable for a kids craft.  Feel free to mix and match different elements of both sets of instructions to make your bunny unique.

Adult Version
Materials:
  • One white cotton work glove, it may or may not have a colored wrist band; Do Not use a knit glove
  • Orange felt; 4" square
  • Green felt; 1 1/2" x 3"
  • Powdered blush*
  • 1" pink pompom or a cotton ball
  • Fabric paint in squeeze bottles in pink, yellow, orange, green and black
  • Hot glue gun

When working with your glove, the palm side will be the front of your bunny.

1) Push the thumb of your glove to the inside as pictured forming a pocket.

2) Using powder blush*, brush the center of the two middle fingers on the palm side.  These will be the ears.

3) Using your hot glue gun, fold over the top of one of the two middle fingers and glue in place.

4) Fold the two outer fingers all the way down as pictured and glue in place using the hot glue gun.

5) Using Fabric paint, paint a face on the bunny and if desired, decorate the pocket.  I painted flowers on the sample.

6) Once the fabric paint is dry, apply some powdered blush* to your bunny's cheeks.  Glue a 1" pompom or a cotton ball to the back of the rabbit just above the wristband.

7) Now it's time to make a carrot.  Trace and cut out a carrot from orange felt using the pattern provided.

8) Cut a 1 1/2" x 3" rectangle from green felt.  On one of the long sides of the rectangle, make slits 3/4 of the way across and approximately 3/8" apart.

9) Using the hot glue gun, glue the long uncut edge of the green felt to the top edge of the carrot. Hot glue guns should only be used by adults or older children with supervision.

10) Roll the orange felt into a cone shape and glue in place with hot glue.  Place your completed carrot into the bunny's pocket.

* If you don't have powdered blush, you can use a pink crayon.

Kids Variation:

Materials:
  • One white cotton work glove, it may or may not have a colored wrist band; Do Not use a knit glove
  • Orange felt; 4" square
  • Green felt; 1 1/2" x 3"
  • Powdered blush or pink crayon
  • 1" pink pompom or a cotton ball
  • Hot glue gun or heavy duty double sided tape
  • White glue (tacky or Elmer's)
  • Black button thread
  • 1/4" pink pompom
  • Ultra fine tip black permanent marker
  • Two 10mm googly eyes

The basic instructions are the same except make the face as follows:

  • Glue on the googly eyes with white glue.
  • Cut three pieces of black button thread 3" long and while holding all three pieces together as one, tie a knot in the center.  These will be the whiskers.
  • Glue the  knot of the whiskers onto the bunny under the eyes and trim the ends of the thread if necessary.
  • Glue a 1/4" pink pompom on top of the knot for a nose.
  • Draw a mouth with an ultra fine tip black permanent marker.
  • You can either use powdered blush or a pink crayon to color the cheeks and the inside of the ears.

Instead of letting the kids use hot glue, use heavy duty double sided tape to hold down the hands and ear.
