Pilgrim Bookmarks

how to make pilgrim book marks

This simple Pilgrim bookmark makes a great classroom activity for school children and is fun to color.

Materials:

  • Heavy weight sew-in interfacing*
  • Permanent black marker; fine or ultra fine tip
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Scissors

*It is important that you use sew-in interfacing as iron-on interfacing has a layer of glue on one side.

  1. Print out our pattern and trace it onto a piece of the interfacing with a permanent marker.  When tracing, it helps to tape the pattern to a window and hold your interfacing over the pattern.  The light coming through the window will make it much easier to trace.
  2. Cut apart the pilgrims you have traced so that you can distribute them to the children but don't trim close to the pilgrim yet.  It is easier to color them this way.
  3. Color the pilgrims with crayons or colored pencils.
  4. Cut out the pilgrims just outside the outside lines.  Very young children will need help cutting out their bookmarks.  Some grade-schoolers may find it difficult to cut close to the line.  If that is the case, I suggest instructing them to leave a little bit of white around the border.  The important thing when crafting with children is that they feel good about what they have created.

Optional:  Before cutting out, flip your bookmark over and color the other side.  You should be able to easily see the lines from the front side.
