Snowman Coaster

Protect your tabletops from hot drinks this winter with our original snowman drink coasters made from painted cork.

Materials:

• Cork that is approximately 3/16" thick (5mm)
• Craft knife
• Pen
• Black permanent marker, ultra fine
• Acrylic paint - white, black, blue, orange, pink
• Paintbrush

1. Trace the snowman pattern onto a piece of cork using a pen.
2. Using a craft knife, cut out the snowman from the cork
3. The side of the ornament with the pen marks will be the bottom of your coaster (the side you will not paint).  Paint a blue stripe across the hat and down onto the sides as pictured.
4. Paint the snowman's head with white paint.  You will need two or three coats of white paint.  Let dry completely between coats.
5. Paint the remainder of the hat black.
6. Using orange paint, paint a nose onto the face of the snowman.  Then, make dots for the eyes and mouth by dipping the end of a paintbrush (not the bristle end) into black paint and touching it to the spot you wish a dot to be.  Re-dip the paintbrush end after making each dot.
7. Once the nose is completely dry, make 3 or 4 marks on it as pictured using the ultra fine permanent marker.
8. Lastly, give your snowman rosy cheeks by dipping the paint brush in pink paint and rubbing a little paint off on a paper towel before applying to the snowman's cheeks.  If you don't have pink paint, mix some white with a dot of red.

Note:

• Not recommended for cold drinks that are sweating as the water could penetrate through the cork.
• Only the white paint should need more than one coat.  The other paints should cover with just one coat.

Ideas:

• Make a set of 4 coasters, stack them and tie ribbon, yarn or raffia around them to make a nice gift.
• Enlarge the snowman pattern and make a hot pad or two to protect your table during your holiday dinner.
