Beautiful flower crochet pattern, the bird of paradise measures about 10.5" long and would make a great addition to many crochet projects! I can see this being sewn onto a completed knit or crochet afghan or lapghan

Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch (es)
tr = triple or treble crochet
yo = yarn over

Flower Petals: *ch 20, sk 2 ch, sc into each of next 2 ch, 1 hdc into next ch, 1 dc into each of next 2 ch, 1 tr into each of next 2 ch, holding back last loop of each tr, 1 tr into each of next 2 ch, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook, 1 dc into each of next 3 ch, 1 hdc into next ch, sl st into each of last 5 ch; rep from * 5 more times (6 petals made)
Flour base: Ch 1, sc in base of each of 6 petals, ch 5, turn. Holding back last loop of each tr, 1 tr into each of first 5 sc, 2 tr into last sc, yo and through all 8 loops on hook.
Stem: Ch 30, sk 2 ch, 1 hdc into each ch to base of flower, sl st to base of flower. Fasten off.
