Broomstick Lace Crochet Stitch Pattern
If you are looking for a unique crochet pattern that requires some skill, the broomstick lace pattern my be just what you are looking for. It requires that you keep the last loop from each stitch on the crochet hook until the end of the row. These loops are kept a bit longer than usual and are stitched back into in groups of 4 on the following row.
Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dtr = double treble
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
st(s) = stitch (es)
tch = turning chain
yo = yarn over
Multiple of 4 sts (add 1 for base chain)
Row 1 (right side): Sc into 2nd ch from hook and each ch to end; turn
Row 2: Ch 1, sc into first st and each st to end, sk tch, turn
Row 3: Ch 1, draw loop on hook up to approx height of dtr; keeping loop on hook and not allowing it to change size through yarn slippage, insert hook into next st, yo, draw loop through; rep from * to end keeping all lace loops on hook. At end remove all except last lace loop from hook, yo draw loop through, turn.
Row 4: *Always insert hook through next 4 lace loops together work 4 sc into these 4 loops; rep from * to end, turn
Repeat rows 2 through 4 ending by working row 2 twice.
Note: Although the pattern requires you to keep all lace loops on the hook until the end of the row, I did not have a problem letting some slide off the end opposite the hook while I was working. Take your time mastering this stitch and you will be glad you did.
