Cable with Bridge Knitting Stitch

Although it is not difficult to understand how to knit this stitch, it does take a bit of practice to get comfortable handling multiple needles. You will need two cable needles to complete this stitch along with your regular knitting needles.

Skill level: Advanced; Panel of 9 sts on a background of reverse St st*.

Special Abbreviation:

  • C9X (Cable 9X) = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and hold at back of work, slip following 3 sts onto a 2nd cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 3 sts from left-hand needle, knit the 3 sts from 2nd cable needle, then the 3 sts from 1st cable needles.

1st row (right side): K9.
2nd row: P9.
3rd and 4th rows: Rep 1st and 2nd rows once more.
5th row: C9X.
6th row: P9.
7th to 16th rows: Rep 1st and 2nd rows 5 times.
Rep these 16 rows.


To work a background of reverse stockinette stitch, in straight stitching, purl the first row, knit the second and repeat these two rows.
