Glass Penguin Ornament

glass penguin ornament - penguin crafts

Who doesn't want a personalized Christmas ornament? Our glass penguin ornament is easy to personalize. Use a white paint pen to write the recipients name and the year on the back of the penguin. He will become a cherished Christmas keepsake. Our penguin ornament is a fun penguin craft for older children and adults. Not suitable for young children as it is made from a glass ornament.

Craft Supplies:

  • Clear glass ornament - pear shaped
  • Acrylic paint, black and white
  • Fine white glitter
  • Black felt (we used felt that was sparkly on one side)
  • Orange craft foam
  • Two 12mm wiggle eyes
  • Paint brush
  • Tacky glue or hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Disposable cup
  • Optional: White paint pen - fine tip
  1. Remove the cap from your ornament (the hanger portion)
  2. Squeeze a little black acrylic paint inside the ornament. Roll it around to completely coat the inside of the ornament. If you need a little more paint add it just a little at a time.
  3. Place the ornament upside down in a disposable cup with the top off the ornament and leave it overnight to dry. This is very important.
  4. With white acrylic paint, paint a white oval on the outside of the ornament to form the penguin's belly. The oval should be about 2" tall by 1 1/2" wide.
  5. While the white paint is still wet, sprinkle some fine white glitter on top of the paint.
  6. Cut two wings out of black felt and glue one on each side of the ornament. Each wing should be about 2" long.
  7. Cut a beak (basically a triangle) out of orange craft foam and glue it just above the white belly as pictured. The beak should be about 1/2" wide (at it's widest point) and 1/2" long.
  8. Glue the two wiggle eyes just above the beak.
  9. Replace the top of the ornament.
  10. If desired, personalize your penguin ornament by using a white paint pen to write a name on the back of the ornament along with the year.
