The diagonal spike stitch produces a diagonal line across each three stitch block for a unique effect. Because you turn your work after every row, the diagonal stitch reverses directions

Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
rep = repeat
sk = skip
st(s) = stitch (es)
tch = turning chain
yo = yarn over

Multiple of 4 sts +2 (add 2 for base chain)

Special Abbreviation: Sdc (Spike double crochet) = yo, insert hook into same place that first dc of previous 3dc block was worked, yo, draw loop through and up so as not to crush 3dc block, [yo, draw through 2 loops] twice.

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook *dc into each of next 3 ch, sk next ch and work 1 Sdc over it instead; rep from * ending 1 dc into last ch, turn
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, *dc into each of next 3 sts, sk next st and work 1 Sdc over it instead; rep from * ending 1 dc into top of tch, turn.
