To achieve the above look, use three different colors and work one row of each color alternately. This crochet pattern would be a great choice when making a lap blanket in your school colors!

Three colors of any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
Sdc = Spike double crochet
sk = skip
sp = space
st(s) = stitch (es)
tch = turning chain

Multiple of 6 sts + 3 (add 3 for base chain)

Work 1 row each in colors A, B and C throughout.

Special Abbreviation: Sdc (Spike double crochet) = work dc over ch sp by inserting hook into top of next row below. When doing so, encase the ch st within the dc.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook; dc in each of next 2 ch, *ch 3, sk 3 ch, dc into each of next 3 ch; rep from* to end, turn.
Row 2: *Ch 5, sk 3 sts, 1 Sdc over each of next 3 sts; rep from * to last 3 sts, ch 3, sk 3 sts, sc into top of tch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, 1 Sdc over each of next 3 sts, *ch 3, sk 3 sts, 1 Sdc over each of next 3 sts; rep from * to end, turn.

Rep row 2 and 3.

To finish; after completing a row 2; Ch 3, 1 Sdc over each of the next 3 sts *sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 Sdc over each of next 3 sts; rep from * to end of row.
