Checkerboard Dishcloth Knitting Pattern

If you know how to knit using the basic knit and purl stitches, you will be able to complete this cotton dishcloth. Our checkerboard pattern is not only pleasing to look at but it provides a good texture for scrubbing the kitchen countertops and the dishes. Change up the colors of the yarn to match your kitchen. We used a variegated yarn for a fun multi color look.

Knitting Supplies:

  • Size 7 (4.5mm) Knitting needles
  • Peaches & Cream 4-ply worsted weight cotton yarn

Approximate finished size 7" square.

Abbreviations:

  • sts = stitches
  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • rep = repeat

Always remember that dishcloths cannot be made from acrylic yarns. You need to use cotton yarn.

  • Cast on 32 sts
  • Row 1 - 6 : Work K4, p4 across row
  • Row 7 - 12: Work p4, k4 across row
  • Rep rows 1 - 12 three more times Bind off on the final row following the pattern as you go.
