Knitting Pattern Rib Knit Hat Child's Size

child's rib knit hat knitting pattern

The following knitting pattern is given in four different sizes - doll, baby, toddler and child's sizes. We have a separate pattern for knitting an adult size rib knit hat. You can customize the size of the hat by adding or subtracting the number of stitches cast on as long as you do so in a multiple of four it will still come out right.

Knitting supplies:

  • 3 oz (or less) Red Heart Super Saver Yarn; worsted weight
  • Size 8 knitting needles*
  • Yarn needle

*If you use a size 7 needle it will give you a slightly smaller hat so if one of these hats is just a bit too big, change to the smaller needles.

If desired make a pompom. This hat looks cute either way, with or without a pompom.

To Make a pompom - wrap yarn around 4 fingers 75 times. Slide the loops off and securely tie a 15" piece of yarn around the center of the loops. Do NOT cut the strand of yarn you used to tie the loops. You will use this to attach the pompom to the hat. Cut the loops and trim the pompom so that it looks neat.
