Loop Half Double Crochet

loop half double crochet stitch

By alternately stitching in the front and back loops using a half double crochet stitch, you achieve a fabric with raised and recessed rows. Since this pattern is made using the half double crochet stitch, it works up quickly which is great when you want to make a baby blanket or afghan!

Materials: Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size G (American/Us) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
rep = repeat
st(s) = stitch(es)

Multiple of 2 sts (add 2 for base chain)

1st row: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc into next and each ch to end, turn
2nd row: Ch 2, *hdc into front loop only of first st, hdc into back loop only of next st; rep from * to end of row, turn
Rep 2nd row.

It is important that you work on a multiple of two stitches so that you end up with alternating vertical raised and recessed rows.
