Pot-o-Shamrocks

craft ideas for St. Patrick's Day

Materials:

  • 4" x 6" Green craft foam
  • Four 5mm googly eyes
  • 1 Chenille stem (pipe cleaner)
  • 2 ½" Tall peat pot
  • 2" Styrofoam ball
  • 6 ½" square green tissue
  • Rocks or marbles
  • Fine tip permanent red marker
  • Craft glue
  • Green Glitter
  1. Apply glue to the outside of the pot where you would like the glitter then sprinkle the glitter over the glued areas. Shake off excess. [If you work over a piece of paper or a paper towel you can fold the paper in half and pour the glitter back into it's container.]
  2. Place a few small stones or marbles in the pot for weight.
  3. Cover the Styrofoam ball with the green tissue and put it in the pot smooth side up (on top of the rocks).
  4. Trace and cut two shamrock shapes from green craft foam.
  5. Glue on eyes, draw a mouth and put dots on the cheeks with the red marker.
  6. Cut the pipe cleaner in half.
  7. Take one end of one pipe cleaner and from the back of the shamrock push it thru to the front then back to the back close to where you first came up.
  8. Repeat step 7 with the other pipe cleaner and shamrock.
  9. Wrap each pipe cleaner around a pencil to "curl" the pipe cleaner. Remove the pencil. If you want to relax the curl, pull gently to do so.
  10. Poke the other end of the pipe cleaner thru the tissue and into the Styrofoam ball.
