Shallow Single Crochet Stitch

shallow singel crochet stitch pattern

The shallow single crochet stitch is a very tight weave where the stitches form a V shape. It is stitched using the single crochet stitch as you have probably guess from it's name. Use some cotton yarn along with the shallow single crochet stitch, to make a hot pad in colors to match your everyday kitchen or in special holiday colors for those more festive times of the year.

Materials: Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

ch = chain
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
st = stitch

Work any number of stitches (add 1 for base chain)

Special Abbreviation: Shallow Single Crochet (shallow sc) = insert hook low into body of each st, below 3 horizontal loops and between 2 vertical threads.

1st row: Skip 1 ch, sc into next ch and each ch to end, turn
2nd row: Ch 1, working into back loops of sts, shallow sc into first and each st to end, turn
Rep 2nd row to desired length.
