Looking for a twist on an old classic? The sidesaddle shell is just that. Each of the shells in this crochet pattern are stitched on an angle for a less traditional look. It is a fun pattern perfect for intermediate stitchers

Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
sp = space
st(s) = stitch (es)
tch = turning chain

Multiple of 6 sts + 1 (add 3 for base chain)

Special Abbreviation: Shell = 3 dc, ch 1 [1sc, 1hdc, 1dc] all into side of last of 3 dc just made.

Row 1 (wrong side): Dc in 3rd ch, 3 dc into next ch, sk 2 ch, sc into next ch *sk 2 ch, shell into next ch, sk 2 ch, sc into next ch; rep from * to last 3 ch, sk 2 ch, 4dc into last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st stitch *sk next 3 sts, shell into next sc, sk 3 sts, sc into next ch sp; rep from * ending last rep with 1 sc into top of tch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3 (count as 1 dc), 3 dc into first st, sk 3 sts, sc into next ch sp, *skip 3 sts. Shell into next sc, sk 3 sts, sc into next ch sp; rep from * ending sk 3 sts, 4 dc in last st, turn.
