Turkey Plant Stake

turkey craft ideas

We have designed this turkey as a plant stake but he would look adorable anywhere you put him - sticking out of a canister of utensils, in a bouquet of flowers or just hanging on the wall. Kids and grownups alike will love painting and gluing to make this festive turkey.

Craft Supplies:

  • Wooden spoon*
  • Paint brushes
  • Brown acrylic paint
  • All purpose sealer or varnish
  • Two 20m oval wiggle eyes
  • One red pipe cleaner
  • Scrap of orange craft foam
  • 4 Feathers
  • Tacky glue

*Our spoon is 10" long but you can use any size spoon.

  1. Paint the spoon brown and let dry completely.
  2. Coat spoon with all purpose sealer or varnish. Let dry per instructions on bottle or can.
  3. Make the beak by cutting a triangle from craft foam that is about 1" wide and 3/4" tall. Glue this to the center of the spoon as pictured. Glue the two wiggle eyes above the beak.
  4. Cut a 3" piece of red pipe cleaner and fold it in half. Make a bend in the pipe cleaner about 1/2" from the cut ends and glue to the spoon as pictured.
  5. Lay the feathers on your work surface so that the ends are over lapping and the feathers are fanned out. Place the spoon on top of the feathers to check and see if it looks how you want it to. If it doesn't, rearrange the feathers until they look just right. My feathers were pretty long so I cut them down to about 4" each. Once you are happy with how the feathers are laid out, squirt a generous amount of glue on top of the feathers and press the spoon into the feathers. Let dry completely before moving your turkey.

Once your turkey is dry, stick the handle of the spoon into a plant or into a flower arrangement to display him
