Wine Cork Hot Pad

crafting with wine corks

If you have some wine corks and are looking to make some fun crafts with them, we have just the idea for you. Use a cigar cutter or utility knife to cut them into circles and make them into a hot pad. Wine cork hot pads are a fun way to protect your table and they match almost any decor.

Craft Supplies:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Wine corks
  • Cigar cutter or utility knife

The number of wine corks you need depends on the size of the hot pad you want to make.

  1. Using either a cigar cutter or a utility knife, cut the corks into uniform size pieces. Our cork pieces are all approximately 1/2" thick. The corks are much easier to cut with a cigar cutter than with the utility knife and you can buy a cigar cutter any where from $2 on up.
  2. Using a hot glue gun, simply start gluing the edges of the cork circles together any way that you want. This project is so versatile because you can make your hot pad any size and shape you want.
  3. If you want to color your corks, after cutting them but before you glue them together, soak them in either a cup of wine or in a container of water with food coloring added. The longer you leave the corks, the deeper the color will be. I suggest letting them soak over night. Then, take them out an place them on either an old towel or several layers of newspaper with a layer of paper towels on top. Let dry completely before assembling your hot pad.
