Description

If you are looking for an open weave pattern that resembles a checkerboard, this is just the pattern for you. To make a unique use of this pattern, you could make squares using the open checkers crochet pattern and squares with a typical granny square pattern and attach them in an alternating layout.

Materials and Supplies

Any weight yarn with the appropriate size crochet hook. Our sample was made using worsted weight yarn and a size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
rep = repeat
sk = skip
sp = space
st(s) = stitch (es)
tch = turning chain

Craft Instructions

Chain a multiple of 6 sts + 9

1st row: Skip 3 ch, 1 dc into each of next 2 ch, *ch 3, sk 3 ch ** 1 dc in each of next 3 ch; rep from to to last ch ending at **, 1 dc in last st, turn
2nd row: Ch 3, 2 dc in first ch sp, *ch 3, 3 dc in next ch 3 sp; rep from * to end, ch 3, dc in top of tch.
