Sewing Info & Tips

Materials:
  • Cork that is approximately 3/16" thick (5mm)
  • Craft knife
  • Pen
  • Black permanent marker
  • Green, gold, and silver acrylic paint or colors of you choice
  • Paint brush

1) Trace the ornament pattern onto the cork using a pen.

2) Using a craft knife, cut out the Christmas ornament from the cork

3) The side of the ornament with the pen marks will be the bottom of your coaster (the side you will not paint).  Using silver or silver glitter acrylic paint, paint the two shapes on the surface of the ball section of the ornament.

4) Using green acrylic paint or an alternate color you choose, paint the edges and the top of the ornament.  Use gold paint to paint the top hanger, portion of the ornament.  Let dry completely.

5) Using a black permanent marker, outline the two silver/glitter shapes on the surface of the ball ornament.  Also, outline the line between the top of the ornament and the ball of the ornament.

Note: Not recommended for cold drinks that are sweating as the water could penetrate through the cork.

Ideas:

  • Make a set of 4 coasters, stack them and tie ribbon, yarn or raffia around them to make a nice gift.
  • Enlarge the Christmas ornament pattern and make a hot pad or two to protect your table during your holiday dinner.
