Pinecone Bird Feeder

how to make a pinecone birdfeeder

Easy and inexpensive project for young children.  Pinecone birdfeeders are a great way to teach children about nature.  This craft project is ideal for preschoolers and school aged children.

  1. Tie yarn or string securely around the end of the pinecone.
  2. Using a knife or the back of a spoon, cover the pinecone with peanut butter.
  3. Roll the pinecone in birdseed.  An easy way to do this is to pour the birdseed onto a plate.
  4. Tie the birdfeeder to a tree and let the birds enjoy eating and the children enjoy watching.

Hint:  If you are doing this with a large group of children, consider using paper plates to pour the birdseed onto.  Also use plastic knives or spoons as this will make cleanup a breeze.
