*4 yards makes 12 aprons - if only making one
you will need 2 yards
1) Cut one piece of fabric 14 1/2" long x 20"
wide for the skirt and cut one piece 60" x 3
3/4" for the tie.
2) Make a narrow hem on all four side of the
60" x 3 3/4" fabric. An easy way to do
this is to use your sewing gauge to mark 5/8"
then press in place with your iron. Go
back and turn the raw edge to the inside meeting
the fold you already pressed and press this in
place.
3) Fold each end into a triangle, press and
topstitch all the way around the tie.
Place the tie aside for now.
4) Narrow hem the two 14 1/2" sides of your
other piece of fabric as you did for the tie.
This is the skirt of the apron.
5) Hem the bottom of the skirt section 1 1/4"
**
6) Run a gathering stitch across the top of
the skirt at 1/4" and 1/8" from the edge.
7) Gently gather the fabric until the top
edge measures approximately 12". Find and
mark the center.
8) Find and mark the center of the tie.
9) Line up the center of the skirt and the
center of the tie.
10) Fold the tie n half lengthwise and place
it over the gathered edge of the skirt. Pin in
place.
11) Stitch across the edge of the tie only in
the section where the skirt is.**
**If your sewing machine has decorative
stitching, this is a good place to use it.
