Description

Instead of struggling with wrapping baby in a blanket that keeps coming undone, place baby into a crochet Baby Sack where they will stay comfortably wrapped.  If it is cold, you can even wrap the baby in a receiving blanket before placing them in the sack providing an extra secure feeling for baby.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Worsted weight yarn, 6oz
  • Size H crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Small amount of contrasting color yarn

Craft Instructions

For this pattern, whenever we say join, join to the 1st dc in that round unless otherwise stated.

Newborn size:

  • Round 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in 3rd ch from hook; join (11 dc)
  • Round 2: Ch2, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around and join (18 dc)
  • Round 3: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around; join (24)
  • Round 4: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around; join (30)
  • Round 5: Ch 2, dc in the same st as joining, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc *dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around; join (36)
  • Round 6: Ch 2, dc in the same st as joining, dc in next 4 dc, 2dc in next dc, *dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, join (42)
  • Round 7: Repeat round 6 (48)
  • Round 8: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining, dc in each dc around, join.
  • Repeat round 8 working even until the baby sack measures approximately 21"

Change to contrasting color to make the border:

  • Slst in 1st dc; * sk 1 dc; 1sc, 1dc, 1sc in next dc; sk 1 dc; slst in next dc; Repeat from * around. Knot off and weave loose ends back into baby sack.

Infant Size:

  • Rounds 1 through 6 are the same as for the newborn size.
  • Round 7: Ch 2, dc in the same st as joining, dc in next 5 dc, 2dc in next dc, *dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, join (48)
  • Round 8: Ch 2, dc in the same st as joining, dc in next 6 dc, 2dc in next dc, *dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, join (54)
  • Round 9: Ch 2, dc in the same st as joining, dc in next 7 dc, 2dc in next dc, *dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, join (60)
  • Round 10: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining, dc in each dc around, join.
  • Repeat round 10 working even until the baby sack measures approximately 21"
  • Border is made same as for the newborn size.
