- Cut a 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" opening in the
center of your sheet of green craft foam.
An easy way to do this is to make a pattern
by cutting a 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" rectangle from
cardboard. Lay the cardboard on top of
the craft foam being sure it is centered.
Trace around it then cut out. An X-acto
knife will give a nice clean cut but should
only be used by adults. If you use an
X-acto knife, be sure to use a self healing
mat to protect your work surface.
Another way to cut the opening is with a
pair of scissors. First, poke a hole
in the center of the area to be cut then cut
towards and along the edges. You can
also purchase premade craft foam frames - if
you do skip to step #4.
- Apply glue to two short sides and one
long side of the piece you just cut but keep
the glue at least 1/2" from your center
opening. Lay your second piece of 6" x
9" craft foam on top of this. Let the
glue dry completely. The piece of
craft foam with the opening in it is the
front of your picture frame. The solid
side is the back. The long side
without glue will be the top of the frame.
- Cut a 3" x 5" piece from sturdy
cardboard. This will be the stand.
Make a fold 1" from one of the 3" ends of
this piece of cardboard. Apply glue to
this 1" section and attach to the back side
of your frame. To position the stand,
hold your frame face down being sure the
opening is at the top. Center the
stand along the 9" side and up from the
bottom about 4 1/2". Let the glue dry
completely. Using a hot glue gun will
eliminate this drying time.
- While the stand dries, cut out one large
and one small shamrock from the contrasting
green craft foam using the patterns on our
printable page.
- Spread a layer of white glue on one side
of the small shamrock and cover the glue
with green glitter. Shake off any
excess. See our
Hints & Tips section for hints on
working with glitter. Then, outline
the small shamrock with silver, white or
clear glitter glue.
- Outline the large shamrock with the same
glitter glue.
- Glue googly eyes and a pompom nose onto
the large shamrock. Draw on a mouth
and eyebrows using a black permanent marker
- Once the stand is dry, turn the frame
over so that it is right side up. Be
sure the opening is still at the top.
Glue one shamrock in each of the lower
corners.
- Using gold glitter glue or gold fabric
paint in a squeeze bottle, write "Happy St.
Patrick's Day" on the frame.
When your frame is completely dry, insert a
picture of your choice in the opening in the top
of the frame.
