Sewing Info & Tips

Materials:

  •  Self stick craft foam hearts in different sizes
  • 10" Cake board* or cardboard circle cut to 10" diameter
  • 1/2 yard (18") string of pearls
  • Masking tape or hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Paint in a squeeze bottle, red & silver (fabric pint works well)

*Note: the white side of your cake board will be considered the right side.

1) Tape or hot glue the two ends of the string of pearls to the back side of the cake board.  The ends should be about 6" apart from each other.  This will be the hanger.  If you use the hot glue, let it cool before continuing - this won't take long.

2) Turn your cake board over so that it is right side up.  Using your red paint, write "Happy Valentine's" or "Happy Valentine's Day!" in the center of the circle.  Make sure the string of pears is at the top before you start writing.

3) Now, go back and using the silver paint, outline the red letters.

4) Make a heart border around the perimeter of the circle by simply peeling the paper off the hearts and sticking them on the cake board.  Add as may or as few as you like, overlapping them and layering them if you desire.

Ideas:

  • You can substitute ribbon for the string of pearls if you desire.
  • You can substitute markers for the paint.
  • Spray your completed sign with glitter in a spray paint can.
