Description

You can make a gingerbread man that resembles your favorite baseball player. Although gingerbread is traditionally for Christmas, these gingerbread men would make a great decoration year round.

Idea: If you want to hang him on your tree, reduce the pattern by about 50% and punch a hole in the top of the gingerbread man's hat. Thread a piece of monofilament or string through the hole and tie the ends together.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Craft foam, brown, tan, white, red, yellow and either dark brown or black
  • Baseball button*
  • Two 5mm Wiggle eyes
  • Craft foam numbers, 2 sets of the same number
  • Markers to draw face and make marks on bat
  • Hot glue ( you can use tacky glue for most of this project but you will need hot glue for the hat brim)

*If you can't find a baseball button, you can make a baseball from craft foam by cutting out a circle and drawing on the stitching lines.

Craft Instructions

  1. Trace and cut out one gingerbread man from brown or tan craft foam.
  2. Trace and cut out two shirts from white craft foam. Glue one to the front of the gingerbread man and one to the back of the gingerbread man.
  3. Cut a 1/4" wide by 3 1/4" long strip from red craft foam. Glue it to the front of your baseball player where his waist is. This is his belt. Cut a small rectangle from yellow craft foam and glue it to the center of his belt.
  4. Glue one set of numbers, in our example it is #15, to the front of your baseball player jest above his belt. Glue the second set of numbers to the back of your baseball player.
  5. Cut a bat out of tan craft foam. Draw little lines on the bat to simulate wood grain. Glue the bat to one hand and glue a baseball button in the gingerbread man's other hand.
  6. To make shoes, trace the tip of the man's feet onto either dark brown or black craft foam. Cut them out and glue them on top of the front side of the gingerbread man's feet.
  7. Cut two hat pieces from red craft foam. Glue one to the front of the baseball players head (at the top of his head) and one to the back of his head.
  8. Cut out a brim from red craft foam. Run a bead of glue across the lower edge of the front of the hat and stick the flat side oif the brim into the glue making the brim of the hat 3D.
  9. Cut a letter of your choice from white craft foam and glue it to the hat above the brim. On the back of the hat, glue a thin 1/2" strip to represent the adjustment in the hat.
  10. Glue on two wiggle eyes and draw on the rest of the face with permanent markers.
