Description

Inexpensive Christmas gift idea for neighbors and others:

This snowman ornament is a fun Christmas ornament craft. Kids will love putting pompoms inside the glass ball ornament but if you get the real glass ornaments, make sure the child is old enough to handle it without breaking it. We don't want any boo boos. It's a quick fun Christmas craft that will be a conversation piece hanging on your Christmas tree.

Tip: Don't have pompoms on hand, use cotton balls or Fiberfill (stuffing) to fill the ball.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Twenty-five 1" pompoms
  • Clear glass ball ornament*
  • Fabric paint in squeeze bottles; orange and black
  • Pencil or chop stick

*We used a.2.5" ball ornament. If you use a larger ornament, you will need more pompoms.

Craft Instructions

  1. Fill a clear glass ball ornament with white pompoms. Use a pencil or chop stick to move the pompoms around inside the ornament. Pack the pompoms tight enough that you don't see any gaps. Replace the ornament top (hanger).
  2. Make sure the outside of the ball is clean and free of lint. You can wipe the outside with rubbing alcohol if you like. The ornament has to be completely dry before you proceed.
  3. Using the black paint, squeeze out 2 dots for eyes and 6 dots for a mouth (as pictured)
  4. Using the orange paint, paint on the nose. To do this, start where you want the widest part of the carrot to be and start squeezing the paint out as you pull to the right or left and release pressure as you do so.
  5. Place on top of a cup until the paint dries.

Tip: You can occasionally find plastic versions of these ball ornaments and that would be a good choice if making these with children.
