Description

Fun recycling craft for Christmas!

Do you have some broken glass ball Christmas ornaments or ones that are so outdated that you don't want to hang them on the tree? Save the metal tops for this great Christmas project.

Make some inexpensive Christmas ornaments with fun recycling crafts. Our walnut shell Christmas ornament recycles both empty walnut shells and the tops from broken glass ornaments.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • Two walnut shell halves
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Bell*
  • Hot Glue gun and glue sticks**
  • Metal ornament hanger

*Any size bell small enough to fit inside your walnut shells.

**If you want to use tacky glue instead of hot glue use a piece of painters tape to keep the ornament together until the glue dries.

Craft Instructions

  1. Clean out the inside of two walnut shell halves.
  2. Place a bell inside one of the halves.
  3. Lay the top from a glass ornament between the two shell halves letting the hook portion stay on the outside of the ornament as shown. Glue the shells together. If you use tacky glue, you have to wait for the glue to dry before proceeding. Also, if using the tacky glue, wrap a piece of painters tape around the walnut shells while the glue dries.
  4. Paint the ornament anyway you like. While the paint is still wet, you can sprinkle it with glitter. We painted one half red and the other half green but you can choose any colors you like. I think painting the whole thing gold would also look quite nice.
  5. If desired, tie a ribbon at the top of the ornament.
