Description

With some construction paper, you can make a lantern for Halloween. This is a very inexpensive Halloween craft. Paper crafts don't take much more than just paper and a few office supplies you probably already have hanging around the house.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • 1 Piece orange construction paper (for pumpkin)
  • 1 Piece white constructions paper (for ghost)
  • Black marker
  • Ruler and pencil
  • Scissors
  • Stapler

Craft Instructions

Both the pumpkin and ghost are made the same way. The only differences are the color of the paper and how you draw the face.

  1. Cut a 1" Strip off one end of the piece of paper. The strip should measure approximately 1" x 8 1/2". Set this strip aside to be used as a handle.
  2. While holding the paper horizontally (landscape orientation), fold the paper in half by folding the bottom of the piece of paper up to met the top edge.
  3. Lightly draw a line across the top of the paper about 1" from the top edge
  4. Starting 1" from the left edge of the paper, draw a line from the fold up to the line you drew at the top of the page. Do not cross the line you drew along the top edge (this is your stop line). Continue drawing lines all the way across the paper keeping each line 1" away from the previous line.
  5. Unfold the paper and draw a face in the center of the paper.
  6. Refold the paper as it was in step 4. Cut along each of the lines you drew across the paper in step 4 being careful not to cut past the horizontal line you drew at the top of the page.
  7. Unfold the paper and bring the left side around to meet the right side. Make sure the face is on the outside as you do this. Use one staple at the top and one at the bottom to keep your lantern together.
  8. Staple one end of the strip you cut off in step one to one side of the lantern and staple the other end of the strip to the other side of the lantern.
