Description

Our Checkerboard Baby Blanket is knit using Encore yarn. Knitting this blanket is the first time I had worked with Encore yarn and I was quite pleased with the results. It is a very soft, pleasant feeling yarn that comes in a wide variety of colors.

You can easily enlarge this baby blanket to make a full size afghan (see instructions below).

Finished size: 43" x 34"

Materials and Supplies

Knitting Supplies:

  • 6 Balls Encore worsted color spun yarn (1200 yards; 600g)
  • Circular knitting needles - size 8 (5mm) 36" - 40" long

Craft Instructions

Note: To enlarge this baby blanket into a full size afghan, simply increase the number of stitches you cast on by a multiple of 18 and knit following the same k9, p9 pattern.

Cast on 171 sts.

(rows 1 through 12 are the edging as are the first 9 and last 9 stitches on all other rows)

Row 1: K3, *p3, k3; repeat from * to end of row.

Row 2: P3, *k3, p3; rep from * to end of row.

Row 3: Repeat row 1 once.

Rows 4 and 5: Rep row 2 twice.

Row 6: Rep row 1

Row 7: Rep row 2

Rows 8 & 9: Rep row 1 twice.

Row 10: Rep row 2.

Row 11: Rep row 1.

Row 12: Rep row 2

Row 13: P3, k3, p3, k9, * p9, k9 (rep from * 8 times); p3, k3, p3

Row 14: K3, p3, k3, p9, *k9, p9 (rep from * 8 times); k3, p3, k3

Row 15: Rep row 13.

Row 16: P3, k3, p3, p9, * k9, p9 (rep from * 8 times); p3, k3, p3

Row 17: K3, p3, k3, k9, * p9, k9 (rep from * 8 times); k3, p3, k3

Row 18: Rep row 16

Rows 19 - 21: Rep rows 13 - 15

Repeat rows 13 - 21 twenty-one more times.

Repeat rows 1 - 12 once.
