Description

Using a combination of the basic knit stitch and purl stitch, you can make a waffle stitch dishcloth. Making a cotton dishcloth with our knitting pattern is even easy for the beginner. They also make great gifts for Mother's Day and Christmas.

Pattern is for a 7" square dishcloth. To make a 9" square dishcloth cast on 43 sts and follow the directions below and for an 11" square dishcloth, cast on 52 sts.

Materials and Supplies

Knitting Supplies:

  • Size 7 (4.5mm) Knitting needles
  • Peaches & Cream 4-ply worsted weight cotton yarn

Approximate finished size 7" square.

Abbreviations:

  • sts = stitches
  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • rep = repeat

Always remember that dishcloths cannot be made from acrylic yarns. You need to use cotton yarn.

Craft Instructions

Cast on 33 sts.

Beginning Border:

  • Knit 4 rows

Body:

  • Row 1: K4, p1, *k2, p1; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k4
  • Row 2: K5, *p2, k1; repeat from * to last 4 sts, k4
  • Row 3: Rep row 1
  • Row 4: Knit
  • Repeat rows 1 through 4 nine more times

Ending Border:

  • Knit 3 rows then bind off using a knit row.
