Description

Make a music wreath from old cds.

Do you have old cds that you want to recycle? Well we have the perfect craft project ~ a wreath made from those old cds. Glue them all together in a circle, add some craft foam music notes and you have a wreath worth singing for. This music wreath would make the perfect gift for any music instructor/teacher or music enthusiast.

Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • 14 Compact Discs (cds)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Craft foam; yellow, red, black, blue and green
  • Clear tacky glue
  • Craft foam letters that spell "I Music"
  • Craft foam heart* approx 1 3/4"

*You can cut out a heart from craft foam if you don't have a pre-made one

Craft Instructions

  1. Lay 7 of the cds flat on your work surface, shiny side up, in the form of a circle so that each disc is flat on the work surface with the sides of the disc touching the sides of the disc next to it..
  2. Lay the other 7 cds on top of the first ones but this time have them overlap the ones underneath them. Adjust the cds so they make a nice circle.
  3. Once you are happy with the arrangement of the discs, hot glue the second row of discs to the first row. The easiest way to do this is to pick one disc up at a time and glue it in place. Make sure you use enough glue. You will need more than just a dot or two. (For added stability, once the CDs are all glued together, turn them over and glue a pice of cardboard cut slightly smaller than your CD wreath to the back side of the cd wreath.)
  4. Using the templates provided cut one G clef out of any color craft foam and cut a variety of other musical notes out of different colors of craft foam. We used about fourteen musical notes on our wreath in addition to the G clef.
  5. Keeping your wreath flat on your work surface, make sure one of the center holes in one of the cds is at the top center of the wreath. This is important because you will hang the wreath up using this hole. Using the tacky glue, glue the heart to the bottom center of the wreath and glue the letter I above the heart and the word music slightly below/overlapping the heart. Glue the G clef and musical notes around the wreath in any pattern you like. You should lay all the craft foam pieces out on the wreath and check to be sure you are happy with their placement before you glue any of them on.
